Therapist and Owner
Lorie Walton is the Owner and Lead Therapist of Family First Play Therapy Centre Inc. in Bradford, Ontario. A centre that focuses on helping children and their families deal with attachment, trauma, emotional and developmental issues.
Lorie specializes in working with adopted/foster care children who are facing attachment related issues and trauma. She also has training in working with children who have been sexually abused.
Before becoming a Certified Child Play Therapist, Lorie devoted her life and studies as a special needs resource teacher for children with developmental and physical disabilities, including children with Autism.
Lorie has an extensive portfolio, working as a consultant in developing programming for children with Autism for the Ministry of Education Program Standards Unit and The Ministry of Community Family and Children’s Services. She also has served as President for the Canadian Association for Child and Play Therapy (CACPT) for six years and continues to be an active member. Currently, Lorie provides support as a consultant and supervisor for many agencies across Ontario and Canada.
Lorie offers a variety of workshops on Play Therapy and attachment related topics as well as internship opportunities and supervision to those studying to become certified in Play Therapy and Theraplay®.
Dr. Diane O’Connor, Ed.D, ABPP, ABSNP, C.Psych.
Consultant and Clinical Supervisor
Dr. O’Connor is a consultant and clinical supervisor for Family First Play Therapy Centre Inc. and is a great addition to our therapy team. Dr. O’Connor is a licensed psychologist in Toronto Ontario, with over two decades of experience working with adolescents, children and their families. She received her doctorate in psychology from the University of Toronto. She holds a Diplomate in School Neuropsychology from the American Board of School Neuropsychology. She also holds specialty disignation in Clinical Psychology from the The American Board of Professional Psychology, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Clinical Psychology. In addition, she obtained a Certificate in Attachment Theory and Treatment.
Her areas of practice include clinical psychology, school psychology and counseling. She is a member of the Canadian Psychological Association, The Canadian Register of Health Service Provides in Psychology, The Internationall Neuropsychological Society, The International Association for the Study of Attachment and The American Board of School Neuropsychology.
Through her practice in Toronto Canada, she offers psychological assessments, school Neuropsychological evalutions and consultation to help parents, educators and professionals with the adolescent and child problems that worry them.
Dr. O’Connor also works with children who have experienced trauma related issues, and/or attachment based concerns.
Lindsay Crowe, MSW, Registered Social Worker (#827380)
Lindsay Crowe joined the Family First Play Therapy Centre Inc. team as a Play Therapy Intern in 2015. She has graduate with a Masters of Social Work and is registered with the College of Social Workers. Lindsay has also attended the Theraplay level 1 training with Lorie Walton and will be furthering her post graduate studies by pursuing Certification in: EMDR, Theraplay, and Play Therapy. Lindsay has experience working with children and adolescents who have experienced trauma and have mental health and/or developmental needs. Lindsay is excited to be part of the Family First team and is committed to helping children work through their challenges by emphasizing their strengths and resilience while creating a supportive, trusting and safe environment for them and their families.
Karen Eade, MDiv, MPS, RP, CPT, RMFT
Certified Play Therapist
Registered Marriage and Family Therapist
Karen Eade joined Family First Play Therapy Centre Inc. in 2014. She is a Certified Play Therapist as well as a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist. Karen has experience in working with children, adolescents, and adults who have experienced trauma, grief, and emotional challenges. Her therapeutic interests focus on conflict and mediation, grief, trauma, adoptive and foster families, as well as sibling and family dynamics. Karen works with children, teenagers, parents, and families.
Shauna Crawford Boone, MDiv, RP (Qualifying)
Shauna is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with an M Div. Clinical Counselling. She is trained as a Marriage and Family Therapist. Shauna is currently pursuing further training and certification in Play Therapy, Theraplay, and working towards the Registered Marriage and Family Therapist designation. She is also a Certified Provider of Autplay Therapy, a play therapy approach for children and adolescents on the autism spectrum and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
Shauna is excited to be a part of the Family First team. She brings with her a passion for kids and a diverse background that includes teaching music, camp counselling, and working as a professional fundraiser.
Grace Kruipers, MDiv, RMFT Supervisor (Candidate), RP | Certified Child Play Therapist (Certification in process) | Theraplay Therapist (certification in process)
Grace has a desire to see individuals, couples and families thrive despite challenging or traumatic life experiences. She has a Masters’ Degree (MDiv) in clinical counselling and is a Registered Psychotherapist, Registered Marriage and Family Therapist and Supervisor (Candidate) and completing certification in both Play Therapy and Theraplay. She works with children, couples and families at Family First Play Therapy and also in private practice. She uses an attachment framework and integrates therapeutic techniques from post-graduate training in various models (CBT, EFT, MI, Focusing and ACT). She holds certificates in trauma and anxiety, addictions, grief and bereavement, and is a certified facilitator of MBTI and Prepare-Enrich. Grace has also worked in education and health promotion.
Autism Support Services Instructor
Sharon has recently joined the Family First team. Sharon is a graduate with an Early Childhood Education (ECE diploma) and Autism and Behavioural Science diploma. Her wealth of experience includes 20 years of experience as a front line worker as well as 15 years of experience as an Educational Assistant. Sharon has completed multiple areas of training through the Geneva Centre for Autism, including Functional Behavioural Assessment, Social Skills Training, Effective ABA Methods for the Classroom, The Social Thinking Curriculum, and Transition Planning and Implementation. This wealth of education and experience provides her with a strong working knowledge about how to support children with autism with social and emotional challenges within real life social situations. Sharon will be implementing Autism Support Services to individuals not as a therapist but rather as an Instructor to assist clients (and their parents) in learning how to navigate social and life skills challenges and experiences.
Anne has been with Family First Play Therapy Centre Inc since January 2016. She is responsible for scheduling client appointments and overseeing all things which make Family First a top notch service within our community. She brings a motherly touch to ensure our team is organized and runs smoothly, and helps clients to feel welcomed and taken care of.
Assistant Office Administrator
Jenny joined our Family First team January 2017. She helps the Office Administrator with all things office admin. Jenny provides friendly and efficient support to all clients and staff with her lovely smile and caring manner.
Gentle Sleep Coach
Samantha joined our Family First team January 2020 as our new Gentle Sleep Coach. She has many years of working as an Early Childhood Educator and decided to further her learning and become a certified Gentle Sleep Coach. She will work with you one on one to create the best sleep coaching program for your family.
